After new successful instalation of XP over ME, I dont see
MS Office programs that I had on my PC before installing
Windows XP Home Edition. The programs are no more under
Start Menu. They do exist under Program Files, Office, but
when I try to start any program, I get the message saying
use Setup to install the program. Please advise. Thank you.

Use setup to reinstall the programs, when you installed XP
the method you used did not preserve the registry so the
programs don't open.

I hope my files ( excel & word documents are still there)?
Is My Documets folder overwritten with new installation of
Windows XP?

Not if Program Files\Microsoft Office isn't (you would need to do a
format/erase during XP install to delete these files). However you will find
9x documents under c:\My Documents unless you had profiles enabled and
personal documents folder. The 2000/2002 documents folder is
%profilepath%\My Documents (could be c:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My
Documents). You would need to move them so they are in the same place.

It depends on how you did the installation. If you formatted the disk,
then no. If you upgraded the ME, running the disk from ME and taking
upgrade, then you should have retained the installed programs. If you
booted the CD, ran Setup and put it in the same partition as the ME then
you probably have a mess that will get you in serious trouble sooner or
later. Best in that case to back up the data files and do a clean
install, with formatting and reinstall applications like Office
