Can't export Outlook data file???

I'm trying to export data in Outlook XP (2002) like I have in the past
(never really had a problem before this).

I simple go to "FILE" ..."Import and Export" ...and then follow the import
and export wizard to export a .pst file and save it to my desktop. I'll then
take that file and transfer it to another computer to import into outlook on
that computer.

The problem I've run into this time is the data file I save to my desktop is
not automatically a .pst file (even though I specified that in the import
and export wizard).

The file I saved to my desktop is linked to a separate program that has
nothing to do with MS (it's a program to run complex calculations)

When the file is saved to my desktop it saves it this other type of file,
but won't let me open it with anything. I even tried to email this file, but
outlook won't even allow it to be attached to an email.

Any idea what might be happening here?

I have a new desktop computer and would like to export all my Outlook data
to this new desktop, but can't seem to do it without being able to save the
files correctly.

Thanks in advance...

Never export to a PST. There's never a reason and you lose data. If you
want to move your data to another PC, see this:

I tried to export the .pst file as I always have in the past. It's work fine
before, but this time the file type when I go to look at the file is not a
..pst file even though that's what I specified in the import and export
wizard.

To get all the data from Outlook XP (2002) onto a new desktop computer, how
would you suggest? You said exporting the .pst file wasn't the best way and
gave me the link to a site that has a few different options for backing up
(one of which is .pst).

What is the best way to back up the data in order to move it to another
computer (new computer that I want to add all my current outlook data to)?

Thanks...

If exporting from Outlook does not create a .pst file, what filetype does it
create (i.e., what is the extension)?

Jut copy the .pst file onto a CD (or other media large enough to hold
the file), then transfer the .pst file onto the other computer (making
certain not to overwrite a file with the same name). Remove the "Read
Only" attribute from the .pst file on the new computer and use
Outlook's File > Open menu to open the .pst file. Done. No importing
or exporting.

What did you not understand about the web page I cited?

Simply copying the original PST with Outlook closed is the best way. No
export needed.
