Hi, I don't know why my xp can't execute setup program with "sfx cab
archive" eg. windows media player, powerpoint, execl, word viewer, etc.
However, when I use winrar to extract the sfx cab archive, then run the
setup file, it works.
Please help, thx.

You'd done it correctly - extract the files, then run the setup.exe file.

The "cab" file is not an executable file or a self-extracting compressed
file.

sorry, I mean the setup file like Install_MSN_Messenger.EXE, MP10Setup.exe,
etc.
Those are called self-extract cab archive (sfx cab archive). I checked it
out from the file properties.
I can't execute those file from normal setup procedure.
I require to extract it (the sfx cab archive) manually, then run the
setup.exe
I don't know what's going on with my xp. But don't want to re-install xp
again without solving the problem.
Thx.

You may have a utility that tracks installs for uninstall
purposes. Older tools were "Cleansweep" by Quarterdeck,
which is not made anymore. I'm sure there is other similar
utilities out there.
When these tools are installed, the system will not
recognize the off named intallers. Generally adding a
wildcard alongside the install word in the recognized module
names may cure the problem. An example is "*install.exe" or
"*setup.exe".
