Can't establish trust between 2 domains

Windows 2000 SP4 servers. Trying to establish new trust between two domain (say DOMAIN1.COM and DOMAIN2.COM). Both domains are in different forests. When I try to add the trust it hangs and then comes up with the error:

"The DOMAIN1.COM domain cannot be contacted."

I can ping DOMAIN1.COM so what else is needed for the domain to be contacted???

Thanks!

The SRV records that tell the DC where the other DC is.

You should make a secondary DNS server(zone) of forest1's DNS in forest2 and
vice versa.

Dan,

IIRC, Trusts between domains in different forests require NetBIOS name
resolution. Have you created LMHOSTS files on the DC in each domain that
holds the FSMO Role of PDC Emulator? That might help.

Check out this MSKB Article:

I might also take this opportunity to suggest that you install the Support
Tools on all WIN2000 Servers. The Support Tools can be located on the
WIN2000 Server CD as well as on the WIN2000 Service Pack CD in the Support |
Tools folder. I would opt for the Service Pack CD. Then use netdom to
create the trust.

I would be remiss were I not to ask about any Firewalls in-between the
two...
