can't edit linked datasheet

I have liked an excel 2003 sheet to access 2003 and acess will not let me
edit or add a new record. If I make the changes in excel and reopen the db
the changes are there. I also am the adminitrator of this db and it is not
set to read only.

Microsoft lost a lawsuit and had to remove the functionality. The last Office Update
you performed removed the functionality. As it happens, I had just recently posted
articles to DBJ about using automation. There's lots of stuff out there about using
Excel automation, but maybe my articles will help.

Also, be aware that if you use the DISTINCT clause in your Queries or use functions
on Memo fields, they will be truncated to 255 characters. Watch for that.

Hi Danny-
Do you mean that you can no longer edit a linked document in access. I don't
understand why MS would make this change and not notify anyone b/c I am
taking a class with their textbook. If this change has occured they should
notify the institutions that are offering this class??

I don't have the link but you can google it for this group. Some guy originally
figured out how to do this and was never compensated for it ... until he won
an $8 million law suit recently. Last month, the latest Office Update did have
a disclaimer, but who reads those things.

So, yes, your text book tells you what was possible last month, but not today.
What's more, you really, really have to watch out for the truncation issue.
