Can't download using Internet Explorer

Hi

I can't download files from any site using Internet Explorer. The file
appears to download i.e. there's a progress bar displayed, but when the
download is complete, the folder is empty.

Downloads using another browser, for example Opera, are ok, it's just IE
that's won't download. I've tried a few things, but nothing has worked so
far.

Any ideas?

I was having the same problem. Turned out to be Windows Defender - Beta 2.
I read several post on this newsgroup and I believe it was PA Bear that
mentioned something about Windows Defender. When I went to Add/Remove
programs, Windows defender wasn't even listed. So, I found the download and
re-installed it. Rebooted and IE downloading started working again. Seems
that the first install of Windows defender must not have completed correctly.

If you didn't install Windows defender.. Check if you have any spyware or
virus software installed. Try un-installing them. See if you can download
then. If everything is working then either get another spyware/virus program
or try re-installing.
