Can't download Directx 9.0c

Serge721

I an trying to download so I can play in WOW Open Beta
hopefully. It failed when the World of Warcraft installer
attempted to download so I decided to just get it off their
actual site. Well it has failed 3-4 times when trying to
download if off their official site as well. It stops the
install at dsound.vxd and the message says "An internal
error occured. Please refer to directx.login your Windows
folder to determine the problem." I am not sure what to do
at this point and any help will be greatly appreciated. I
already updated my video drivers so that isn't the problem.
Thanks. My current version is DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901)

Hi Serge721,

You should install DirectX 9.0c by downloading the full install package:

Thanks for the information, but sadly I have already tried
doing that. I have uninstalled Directx completely using
some program, but I am still getting the error. This sucks.

Your best solution would be to repair Windows using these instructions:

How to repair Windows XP:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and

Hm, well I couldn't figure out how to do what it said. I
don't think I have a system restore CD to return my
computer to the state in which I first purchased or I would
use that. It really doesn't matter anymore cause my
computer is pretty much screwed now. I have some horrible
spyware on my computer now and Ad-aware, Spybot, and
Hijackthis doesn't remove it. Is there anyway to delete
Internet explorer off my computer? All the pop-ups are
from IE and I use Netscape anyways, but now the pop-ups
even come if I never open Internet Explorer. When I
restart my computer I also have to end a program called
RUNDLL32.EXE cause it won't respond. I think I just need
to get a computer expert to look at this. Thanks for all
your help though. BTW do you know a good program to get
rid of spyware? At this point it doesn't have to be free
as long as it will actually destroy this stuff. Thanks again.

IE is integrated with the operating system, which means some of the
underneath parts are used with other programs, like Help and Support. You
may want to go through some of the information here: www.aumha.org/secure
and even check out the Aumha Forums (where they have a
security/virus/malware section).

Hello,

Well I have repaired my Windows installation, but I still
can't download DirectX 9.0c. Repairing Windows did however
reinstall DirectX 8.1 onto my computer. The installation
keeps failing at dsound.dll, there is no requirement for a
sound card with the new version is there? Thanks for any
help.

Hey,

Does SP2 mean Service Pack 2? Because the Windows XP CD I
have only includes SP1 I think.
