Can't delete file - Data Error (CRC)

Let me preface a description of my problem by saying I'm using XP Home and
all critical updates are in place. I've run two different virus scans on
the entire system with negative results. I've run both Spybot SD, and
Adaware, and removed the junk each found.

Problem: I had a problem with TiVo Desktop and ended up trying to
uninstall and reinstall the program. The renstallation would fail with the
following error message: "Error writing to file: C:\Program
Files\TiVo\Desktop\LibEay32.dll Verify that you have access to that
Directory." Evidently it's failing because the file "LibEay32.dll" can't be
deleted or overwritten.

I've tried deleting the file but get the following error message: "Cannot
delete LibEay32.dll : Data Error (cyclic redundency check)" I've also
tried deleting the file while logged on as administrator in SafeMode. The
result is the same with the same error message.

I've contacted TiVo and they point the finger at Microsoft.

Anybody have any ideas how I can get rid of that file?

Boot up into DOS, navigate to the folder that contains that file, then type
delete filename, then press Enter. Worth a try.

Run chkdsk on the drive.

Also the utility here may help, but can require caution:

I ran Chkdsk C: /f /r during the night, and that solved the problem.
Although the problem was solved before reading your reply, I thank you. You
would have put me on the right track. Sometimes we get so caught up in a
problem, we overlook an obvious course of action!
