Can't delete columns

All the sudden I can't delete columns in Excel. New worksheet, existing
worksheet....nothing. I highlight the column and the 'delete' option is
grayed out. (same with the edit menu) What gives?
 
Do you have the auto filter active? I just ran into the same issue
forgetting that I can only delete rows with the autofilter on.
