Can't defrag

I am attempting to defrag my master OS drive c:\ and get
error message "dfrgntfs.exe has generated errors" and
reports "Engine Connection Closed". I am able to defrag
slave drives w/o a problem. Any thoughts.

To rule any file system inconsistencies, I would first do a CHKDSK /F /R on
the drive and see if CHKDSK finds/fixes any errors. If you still have the
same problem, I'd suggest booting into Safe Mode and defragmenting from
there and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then there likely a
conflict with an installed program/driver.
