Can't defrag C: drive - pls help

Pete

I've recently joined a small company where we're running Win 2000 SP4
on a server with 2 attached PC's.

The C: drive on the server is badly fragmented - the defrag analysis
shows as a red bar with just a few blue, green and white lines.
The C: drive is 7BG with 41% free (there are 2 other drives in the
server).

Defrag runs fine, but there are lots of files that it won't defrag
(see report below) I've tried running defrag in safe mode, but it
still won't defrag these files.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Pete

Get a copy of Diskkeeper server, it's much better than the
built-in defragger, and it'll run overnight on low
priority if you set it. I see you HAVE a directory for
diskkeeper server - set it to run continuously overnight a
few nights and it should clear up a lot of that.

Also see if you can't get rid of a lot of those files off
of the servers' C: drive. A server C: drive is strictly
for OS and server operations. There's too much depending
on that box to load apps and run outlook on there and
possibly mess it up.

Oh, and I noticed that you have a 0 size pagefile? Is
that true?! How much memory is in this server, anyway?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Rich -

I found Diskkeeper and installed it.
It has been running for about 30+ hours now but has only managed to
defrag less than 1% of the fragmented files. I set it for High
Priority and I'm leaving it running continually at present as I'm the
only one in the office so can put up with a slower response from the
server.
At least it's doing something which is more than defrag done.

Thanks again
Pete
