Can't create program folders?

I ran into this problem a few weeks ago, totally out of nowhere, and
it's been a pest since!

Somehow my Windows XP became unable to create program folders by itself
anymore. Like, if I install a program that would normally create a
folder and shortcuts to my 'Programs' folder, it doesn't.

Even if it asks 'Do you want to create a short cut blah blah' and I say
yes, it still doesn't!

So I usually just created the shortcuts manually, it wasn't a big deal.
However, I have since ran into some programs that, when installing, try
to create the folder, and when they can't they abort the installation.
I haven't found a way around this.

Possibly a virus?

The best way to answer the question, "do I have a virus?" is to scan
with a current version antivirus (not earlier than 2004) using updated
definitions. What av do you have installed? Name and version, and
whether your subscription is current, please.

Also, have you run Disk Cleanup lately to get rid of temporary files?
Start>Run cleanmgr [enter]

And one more thing - how much room do you have on your hard drive?

Answer those questions for more focused troubleshooting help.
