Can't create new logical drive in existing free space

T

Test Man

Hi.
I have a 160GB hard disk with Windows XP, one NTFS partition. I use
Partition Manager 2005 to resize this existing partition to 60GB, leaving
100GB of free space. However, using Windows XP's Disk Management (and also
Partition Manager has the same problem), I cannot create a new partition in
this free space (the option is greyed out), even after a reboot. What could
be causing the problem?

That's a good question that bears answering, I don't have one.

My question is why use a 3rd party program for partitioning, then not
continue using it for all your partitioning needs?
IE: extended partition with a logical drive.

To get it click on the Download Option ( as distinct from Purchase

You are going for NTFS and not FAT32?

Open Disk Management and Right Click on the Disk 'X' heading
and take Properties. When the details box opens, click on the
Volumes (TAB). Could you post the information presented on
the Volumes page ?

Well it's because Partition Manager 2005 won't let me either, in that
application, the Create button doesn't highlight (when I select the free
space) so I can't press it.

I have just been looking at the Partition Manager Knowledge Base. It is
pathetic!
