Cant connect to network through wireless or ethernet

I have unistalled everything on xp home dell inspirion 6000 and tried
everything on the dell support site like netsh winsock reset catalog dident
work
neither did hard setting the duplex tried the winxp socket fix and tcpip
optimizer from speed guide also tried reinstalling the nic and tcp/ip from
the inf file. After running winsock fix I get an ip off of my router but I
cant ping the router nor renew ip and the same on the wireless and even tried
usb/ethernet adapter and the same thing. Did a system restore and it just
crashed Mcafee but did not fix my big problem of getting back on to a
network.

It was Mcafee the whole time and I had to forcefully remove it from the
registry and then run a reg scrub and then reapair the sockets and reset
everything. Work like a champ now installed Microsoft ASW and free AVG. Whats
up with Mcafee blowing sockets out of XP?

Thanks for reporting back! It's always good to know what worked
and what caused the problems.

McAfee has never been popular with the experts, and
Norton/Symantec stuff has lost a great deal of goodwill as well.
The experts I know no longer recommend it. Many have removed it
from their systems. Norton is so bad that even uninstalling it
leaves some damage behind.

I don't know any details about the McAfee problems though, only
general discontent with the software.
