Can't Configure Domain connection on Embedded System

Aidan Mallon

Hi,

I'm evaluating Windows XP embedded using the SP1 Evaluation edition of
Windows XP Embedded.

I am having a problem connecting my Embedded Image to a Domain. I have
added the Computer Name User Interface, but when I try to bring up the
properties on My Computer the dialog does not appear. I get no error,
nothing happens.

Is there another component I need to make this work? I can browse the
server in Explorer so I probably have the correct networking components.
Its just I can't get at the Computer Name dialog.

Any ideas.

Regards,
Aidan

P.S. I've built my image using the Windows based Terminal Professional
design template.

Hi Aidan,
add the macro component "Domain Participation" to your project.

Why SP1? Why not latest - SP2?

"Domain Participation" macro is the component you will need.

I hope you added "System Control Panel" component.
Also, please make sure that the right click menu is enabled on your image. You are able to change that in the "User Interface Core"
component settings (Show Notificaitons on ...)

KM/bcpauli,

Thanks for the replys guys.

In reponse to both your points I have the Domain Participation component
installed.

KM:
I download SP2 today but I'm having a problem updating my database, the
upgrade runs for 10mins then returns an XML error. I'm setting up the
embedded tools on another machine as I type but I'm not too sure that
upgrading to SP2 will resolve my problem?

The System Control Panel is part of my image, as is the User Interface Core.
However when I go into the settings for the user interface core I don't see
an option to enable the right click. There is an option "Show context menu
on Shell folders", this wouldn't happen to be a similar option in SP1 would
it?

Thanks in advance again.

Unlikely.
But SP2 has all the QFEs that may be helpful to your. Otherwise you should go through SP1 QFes and install all the appropriate.
(I recall there was a QFE for Domain participation on non-English locales)

That's the right option. Set the following options there:
"Show context menu on Shell folders"
"Show context menu on Task bar"
"Show Notifications on Task bar"
And then you won't have problems with right clicks.

KM, Thanks for the reply again.
"Show context menu on Shell folders"
"Show context menu on Task bar"
"Show Notifications on Task bar"

I have added these settings to the User Interface Core but now when I click
on My Computer and properties I get the Hardware, Advanced and Remote Tabs.
Still no computer name tab even though the Computer Name User Interface
component is part of my configuration. Domain Participation is also
installed. Any ideas?

Thanks again.

Aidan,

Interesting.. The Computer Name User Interface is what you really needed. I am not sure why it didn't work for you.

Anyway, you may want to try adding heavy "Administration Support Tools" component and resolve its dependencies. Then you should be
able to see the missing tab.

Also, you can set the computer name in TD on the Settings page of your HAL (PC) component. E.g., Standard PC component, or etc.
