cant check status of license

when i go to login as the user this message appears " Aproblem has prevented
window from accurately checking the status of the license for this computer.
to proceed your copy of windows must be activated with microsoft. Do you
want to activate windows now?"
i click yes but all the system does is go back to the welcome select user
screen.
this is for my laptop
