I recently upgraded to XP and can't change the home page from the default
MSN. I have opened internet options under the tools menu, but the home page
is dimmed out. What have I done wrong?

Options & "protections" in several third-party applications can disallow changing your homepage. These include Ad-aware Pro's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm.

Download, install, and run all the below:

Spybot - Search & Destroy by Patrick Kolla
http://security.kolla.de/

Ad-Aware by Lavasoft
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

After you install the above, click "Online" and get the latest updates for the database. Update
it regularly for new spy info.

I had the same problem. I finally removed zone alarm and ran with the sp2
firewall and know I can change my home page.
