Can't change data types in fields when importing

Help please. When I import data from a text file, I have the options of
designating the name of the field, and the data type. However, this feature
doesn't seem to be working. I do not have the option to change anything on
any field other than the first one through the import wizard. I do not have
the option to skip fields, either. It is like Access sees only the first
field in my comma delimited text file. The other data shows up, in delimited
fields through the wizard, but I can't get to any of the fields.
I am running MS Access 2002, Sp3.
Thanks for any help

This is a known issue for ACCESS 2002 SP3. This issue is desribed in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875252

There is a Hotfix available from Microsoft Technical Support for this
problem. Description of the Access 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;841365

Additional information regarding the application of this HotFix for people
using Windows XP SP2:

Apparently, when the HotFix is installed in this environment, conflicts
between the HotFix and Windows XP SP2 cause some .dll files to become
unregistered, and therefore the HotFix may appear to not work after it's
installed.

To resolve this, after installing the HotFix, run a repair of your Office
program. That re-registers the .dll files and the HotFix then works as
advertised.

So, install the HotFix, then repair Office.

Microsoft assures me that the KB article will be updated to reflect this new
information.

When is Microsoft going to really fix this problem. My I.T. department is
not going to look kindly up me installing a hotfix that fries MS Office.
Shouldn't there be some kind of patch sent out to all XP user to make this
right?

From what I understand, not all users experience this problem. And the
hotfix, as noted in the KB article, has not undergone full regression
testing, so it's also possible that it could cause other problems after you
install it.

I cannot speak to what MS's plans might be... I don't work for MS.
