Cant capture video

I have a problem capturing video onto my laptop. I have a sharp video camera,
connected to a firewire port. MM 1.1 recognises the device and everything
else appears normal. I can get as far as clicking on record, but as soon as I
do, the program will run for a while then not respond, and I have to then
switch off the computer. I have not been able to capture video at all as this
problem occurs eveytime I click on record. The controls in MM for operating
the video camera work, but no preview comes up and the video camera continues
to play while MM thinks. The exact same problem occurs with other video
capture programs.

I have a Dell Inspiron 2.4 ghz with 60 gig and 512 ram with XP home.

Please Help!!

Try upgrading to MM 2.0 or 2.1. If you install SP2, you will automatically
get 2.1. If you are not ready yet, just install MM 2.0. A lot more stable
with a much better interface. If you still can't load video, make sure you
have the latest driver for your camera installed.

Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately I still can't capture any video after upgrading with SP2. It
now seems that I can preview a very little bit (one frame only I think) while
the tape keeps playing. It will reach 3 kb then seems to stop the capture. I
will then try and cancel it and MM will hang and become unresponsive. Again
it will do the same with other programs as well.

Any other suggestions?
