Please help us to help you. What does "it wont work" mean? What
happens when you try? If you get an error message, please quote
it verbatim

For information on how to make a good newsgroup posting, read
http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

You don't need a boot floppy.

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if
necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when
prompted, then create a new one).

You can find detailed instructions here:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

or here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm

or here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm

Possibly set the boot order in cmos setup to CD-Rom first in boot sequence.
Also look for the keystroke (if necessary) at POST to force boot from CD-Rom
drive or check your mobo/pc manual for instructions.

it simply doesn't do anything when i load the windows cd and then restart the
comp or the boot floppy there isn't an error message at all it just acts as
if i havn'y done anything other then a normal startup

I checked my bios and all of my boot options are dissabled
i tried to enable them but that doesn't appear to be an option
no matter how hard a i try

am i doing something wrong perhaps?

on the Boot Priority scrren it reads like this

1st Boot device [1st floppy drive]
2nd boot device [pm-st3400t4a]
3rd boot device [sm- 52x24x52 cd]

there is a message to the right stating that all devices listed within
parentheses are disabled

when i click on them it will not change

This is very strange. You should have the ability to specify the boot order
(the order of searching by the BIOS for an OS).
What does your computer manual say about BIOS settings?
It would seem that your BIOS is damaged. About the only fix that exists is a
new motherboard.

Have you checked Device Manager if you knocked out the Floppy and CD rom
from the system

Intel desktop board D845GVAD2
I checked the device manager and made sure all devices where updated to the
fullest
I read the link you posted to me
i printed out a copy of the bios for my board and i went back in and
changed the device priority to
cd
pm-st3400t4a
1st floppy
the lights come on checking those drives when i start the computer up
in the new order it just seems to ignore the fact of a boot disk
the funny thing is the computer works
the cd drive works and the floppy drive works
it will run the windows disk and ask me the four options if i
want to install windows XP
if i want other windows options
perform additional tasks
or check system compatibility
all this it does while running from within a windows screen
there should be someway to acces before windows even starts up
or am i missing something?
thanks

btw im not sure perhaps i might be wrong but
the drives are listed in brackets[] not ( ) so i believe it is not the
drives that are diabled on boot
just somehow it is ignoreing it
is there anyway to get to the dos prompt though to reformat c:
i can get to the dos promt thru the start/ allprograms/accessories/c;prompt
but i am not sure if i should type reformat c:
after a prompt of
c: docs and settings/administrator>
would this be safe?

Try to change to the following settings that I suggest. You will have to
print this e-mail out. The changes I suggest are listed under your current
settings below. You make the Changes by using the arrow keys to highlight an
item then press Enter key and select the option. To change the boot order
select the item and then press the "+" or "-" minus keys to move the device
up or down. For example select the "3rd boot device [sm- 52x24x52 cd]" so
it is highlighted, by using the arrow keys, then press the "+" key and move
it up so it will now be in 1st place.
