My computer is connected to a router but I can't aquire
the IP address from the router. The tcpip properties are
set up to obtain an IP address automatically, as well as
DNS, and private IP address. When I try to to do
a "ipconfig /renew" from the command window it tells me
an error has occured an "operation was attempted on
somthing that was not a socket"

I had what seemed like the same problem. I followed the instructions up to the point of installing TCP/IP, but I don't have a C:\WINDOWS\INF folder and I can't seem to locate anything similar. I have WINXP Home edition installed as a second OS with WIN98 on the C: drive an WINXP on the D: drive. There is no C:\WINDOWS nor D:\WINDOWS directory. Any ideas. Thanks
