Can't Apply Actions Suggested Actions

,I am running XP Pro sp2. I use an admin account and have a power user
account so I don't have to be logged in as the admin all the time. Because a
piece of software updated itself, I keep getting warned about Defender
detecting a change. Because it is under the Power User account I cannot apply
any actions even though Defender is recommending allowing the change. When
logged in as Admin I don't get the warning; everything in Defender control
panel is normal. How can I make it so that this warning under my power user
account will go away? Why am I not seeing this message under the admin
account? Is there some way to give my Power User profile rights to apply
actions in Defender?

Logged in as Administrator, go to Tools Options, in Windows Defender. How
is the very last option set? (scroll down) I believe this is what you
want.

I do have that block checked under my administrator account yet "Apply" is
still 'grayed out' in my user account.

I beleive that Bill was referring to Tools | Options | Administrator Options.

Is "Allow users to use Windows Defender" checked or unchecked?

Checking this will elevate users' permissions.

Hmm - assuming the option you are looking at is the one Scott D mentions,
I'm at a loss-that's what that box is supposed to accomplish.

If you are on 1347 (see the top number under help, about), I'd recommend
doing an update or repair install via control panel, add or remove programs,
Windows Defender, Change, update.

Be sure to have done the original install and to do this update, as
administrator. After the install completes, look at that option setting.
If it has carried through checked, I would uncheck it, restart, and then
check it again. (I doubt the restart is needed, but basically I want to see
all the Defender parts restarted.)

Let's see whether this is an issue with the particular install that can be
fixed by a repair.

If you are not on 1347, I'd uninstall, and download from www.microsoft.com
(there's still a link on that page)--and reinstall--then go and check that
same option, and let's see if it works better.

I checked the version and it was 1347. I went to the control panel as
administrator and tried update. I also tried unchecking and rechecking the
the box allowing users to apply actions. I applied all actions and did a
reboot inbetween all actions. Apply was still grayed-out under my user
account. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled Defender, again with a
reboot inbetween, and I will see how things go from here. I am still not sure
why I was able to apply actions as a user at one time and then lost the
ability.

Unfortunately it appears that Microsoft haven't completed this functionality
- whether you have the box ticked or not, normal user accounts cannot select
an action for Defender. I wonder if Microsoft is considering fixing this bug?
