Hi,

I'm running WinXPPro on a fast Pentium IV with 256Mb RAM, and I'm unable to
view the Application Event Log.

1) I log on as the local Administrator account (it's in the Administrators
group)

2) I write-click on the machine icon and click Manage

3) I open up the Event Viewer subtree within the Computer Management (local)
snap-in, and click on the Application log.

This brings up a Message Box entitled "Event Viewer" with the error message:

Unable to complete the operation on "Application".
A required privilege is not held by the client.

I have no problem accessing the Security or System event logs. and, as far
as I can tell, neither I nor anyone / anything else has modified the
policies or rights of the local Administrator account.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Best regards,

Mark Rae

It appears that the appevent.evt file (found in %windir%
\system32\config) is either corrupt or the Administrators
group does not have appropriate access to it.
