I recently bought Symantec Norton antivirus 2004 and when I tried to run
live update it could not connect to the server. I have tried to access
Symantec.com and it will not come up. It appears that the computer will not
allow me to access Symantec.com. How do I get it to allow me to?

Boot into Safe Mode and try reaching LiveUpdate or symantec with no other
applications running.

Check your system for "hijackware":

CoolWebSearch Chronicles & CWShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Run in this order:

1. CWShredder (fix all)

2. Ad-Aware (fix all)

3. Spybot (generally, fix all in red)

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

Also scan with at least two (2) of the free online scanners you'll find at
http://aumha.org/secure.htm. And given the description of your problem, you
should first disable System Restore and then scan after rebooting into Safe
Mode.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

Some parasites will block the site in this file.
It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.
