Can't access local network through network places

Hi,

I can't acces other local computers through the explorer. Most computers and
pheripherals seem to remain hidden through the explorer, the others can't be
accessed. Some computers can be accecssed by using a drive letter network
connection to the IP address.
If I ping to the server's name I receive an old IP address, If I ping to its
new address the server responds well. Other computers on the network do not
seem have this problem.

If possible I would like to reset my PC network settings to rebuild it as
new. Is there a manner to do this without having to reinstall windows ?

Do you have internal DNS or WINS? would check the DNS records first.

Thanks for the tip. I've relooked my TCP/IP settings very well and found that
the wrong WINS data was entered (from the old IP address). I've changed it to
the new address and my problem is solved.

Pete,

Do you have a DNS or WINS server on your LAN? Or do you do broadcast name
resolution? If the latter, ensure that NetBT is Enabled on all computers.

Or look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net
config workstation", from each computer involved, and diagnose the problem.

The network has all static IP addresses and is apparently controlled through
a WINS server.
The web is controlled through our ADSL modem which is connected to the LAN.
