Canon S520 & HP Pavilion Notebook

Hello --

I'm trying to install a Canon S520 bubble jet on my new hp laptop.
I'm running Windows XP.


* I downloaded the recent most recent driver from canon.com. No
problem.

* The process seems to go fine up until the point I receive the
prompt"

1) Check that the cable is connected.
2) Turn the printer on.
3) Printer port will be detected. Please wait.

BUT the port is never detected, and trying to use the "manual" mode
doesn't work.

Things I've tried:

* Moving the cable to different usb ports on the computer.
* Uninstalling the driver, re-downloading, and re-installing.
* Turning off the printer. Repeatedly.
* Turning off the computer. Repeatedly.

I've fastidiously followed all of the instructions, and I'm still dead
in the water.

Other than buy a new printer, anyone have any other ideas?

Do any USB devices work on your notebook?

I'm having 520 problems, too.

I was finally able to install the printer by unplugging the cable when the
"find port" box was on the screen, and then plugging it in again.

If that doesn't work let me know--I've tried some other tricks that might
help you.
