Canon Pixma: Print head specs

Martin Trautmann

Hi all,

do you know the exact spare part numbers and print head details for
Canon's printers?

i865: QY6-0049-000
iP4000: QY6-0049-000
iP5000:

iP4200: = iP5000?
iP5200:

iP3300:
iP4300: = iP5200?
iP5300:

From other sources in the net I derived that iP4200 and iP5000 are
different.

How much nozzles are within each print head? For iP5000 I found:
BCI-3eBk: 320 x 5 pl (pigmented black)
BCI-6C/M/Y: 256 x 5 pl
BCI-6Bk/C/M: 256 x 1 pl

However, as a quote from the iP4000 service manual I found:
BCI-3eBk: 320 x 30 pl (pigmented black)
BCI-6C/M/Y/Bk: 256 x 5.5 pl
BCI-6C/M: 256 x 2.5 pl

What's the nozzle size for pigmented black? 30 pl!?

What's the nozzle size for pigmented black? 30 pl!?

Why not? Notice that the color droplet sizes are the smaller ones. For
example, may a printer could print cyan with three different droplet
volumes: 40pl, 8pl and 5pl. Because the 4000 has two blacks, there is no
need for the pigment black to print very small droplets. May the small
droplets comes form the pbk.

The number of nozzles for some models
www.inkline.gr/inkjet/newtech/misc/canonnozzles.html (total number of
nozzles for each color corresponds to the colors in parenthesis. pbk=photo
black). Please read only the table, you won't understand any word ;-)
I notice some interesting you mention for the 4000:
BCI-6C/M/Y/Bk: 256 x 5.5 pl
BCI-6C/M: 256 x 2.5 pl
This means the total number of cyan nozzles is 256+256=512, but half of them
could print up to 5.5 pl and the other half up to 2.5 pl.

I fully agree that 30 or 40 pl is a reasonable size, especially for
pigmented ink, escpecially for fast text printing at about 600 dpi.

However, you do not see detailed specs very often. What I had read
before was 5 pl for pigmented black of the iP5000, compared to 30 pl for
the iP4000. I trust the 30 pl from the service manual - but I don't know
knewer service manuals, nor the more detailed specs within.

Nice overview.

yes, exactly. Naming a '2.5 pl' nozzle as '2 pl' is a very rough
rounding, being wrong by 25 %.

I don't know the newer numbers for iP5000/4200/5200/3300/4300/5300 - but
my guess is that it's more like 1.5 pl instead of 1.0 pl...
