Hi
What's the difference between a CIST Scanning element with an LED
Light source and a CC D Scanning element with a Cold cathode
fluorescent lamp Light source in regards to scanning quality results
etc.?

Is the CC D required for film scanners? or do they give better results

I don't need a film scanner - just for photos, CD/DVD covers and OCR

I'm pulled between the Canonscan lide 35 and the lide 80

A CIS (Contact Image Sensor) is zero depth of field, if the document is not
in contact with the glass, the image is out of focus. Canoscan Lide series
uses this type of sensor.

A CCD (Charged Coupled Device) is the same device used in digital cameras
and can have a large depth of field, maybe several inches from the surface
of the glass.

LED light or fluorescent lamp, mostly makes a difference if you are scanning
Kodachrome or B&W film which does better with fluorescent lamp. (It is the
silver in the film).

The real advantage of the Canon Lide series, is the fact that you do not
need an external source of power. They are powered by the USB from the
Computer.

That makes them very portable with a laptop computer.

It's more likely to be around 0.5-1.0 millimetre above the glass
platen in most scanners. Depth of field would depend on purpose
(output size relative to native resolution).
