just trying to give you more choices :)

I was looking at body only prices and there's abt 100 quid difference ?

EOS 400D Body £460.99
Nikon D80 £549.00
Nikon D50 Body £299.87

Yeah, you are right about the body only, but the Canon & Sony do lens packages, the nikon dont to any that i want - so i have to pay for the lenses seperatly.

when did the D50 come out?

april 2005 - review @ http://www.bythom.com/D50REVIEW.htm

it's a lot of camera for the money,.

choose which you will enjoy using,. the technical differences between cameras are not that much as you might believe and better quality glass will make more difference (as well as technique etc)

whichever you decide post some pics when you get it :)

I want to try the Sony before i decide. The D80 is still an option, depending on wheter i can get enough money for it.

i will let you know when i am sure which one is for me :)

Hi guys,

i tried the sony yesterday and it is simple to say that i am not buying it :D

i do not like the way that it takes photos, focuses or anything - it just seems too old and clunky.

----

It looks like i will buy the canon, as i dont think the D80 is for me.

Which of the following lenses is better?

Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 USM MK3

or
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro DG

(sigma is £14 more expensive)

thanks

Sigma is a better deal if you compare the two in question. ;)

Thanks Quad, i just wasn't sure if the sigma was lower quality or if it was better to stick with a lens made by the same people as the camera.

Chris, Sil - you win!

I just played around with the D80, my local camera shop finally got it in.

It is much better than the canon, well worth the extra cost!

The D80 looks the best camera imo :)

And if you get a Sigma telephoto lens - make sure it is the APO DG version. The APO eliminates chromatic abboration (sp) and is a MUCH better lens.

right, i was wandering what the difference was. the non-APO one is £70 cheaper.

is it worth £140 extra to get the 18-75 kit lens? as by itself it is £260

the 18-70 (I think this is the one you mean) is a v good lens, bare in mind that not all 'kit lenses' are created equal, the nikon 18-70 is probably one of the best 'bang for buck' from nikon, for 165ish on it's own it's a def bargain http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat11.html

don't discount other lens makes though,. theres some good lenses around for reasonable prices,. nikon macro lenses are not cheap but the tamron ones are good value and high quality (I think ppl like the 90mm tamron one?)

Chris, the D80 has 3 Kits; Body Only, Body + 18-70, Body + 18-135

It is about a £140 difference between the Body only & the Body + 18-70.

I was just wandering if the lens was worth the extra money.

I am looking at buying from my local jessops as they will price match the internet prices, if they wont match the cheapest, i will just buy it from them.

the SD card i will get from Amazon. and the sigma lens also from jessops.

Thanks Sil, i was wandering about tamron as they seem to have the cheapest lenses.

I have the 18-70 and it's a really nice lens :)

I don't know much abt tamron lenses but I have heard their macro ones are worth a look - I don't know abt what others they do :)

I also have the 18-70

It is nice.

You will need an SD card of at least 80x speed, and a UV filter for both lenses.

okay, i will get the D80 with the lens! Thanks guys.

Chris, i am going to get a Sandisc Extreme III 2GB - it is supposed to be the fastest for this camera. what do you use?

and, do you know why Nikon are using SD as opposed to CF, which i always thought was more reliable?
