Cannot write to CD in "Safe Mode"

Is it possible to write to a CD while in Safe Mode? If so, I am unable to do
so on my machine presently. I get to the point where I am ready to write the
file to the CD and I get an error message that no disk is in the drive.

If I try it in normal mode everything is fine. So either, it is not possible
to do this in safe mode or I need to change some settings somewhere. Help
please.

The reason for wanting to do this is I have a friend that cannot log on to
their system in normal mode. However, they can log on in safe mode. I have
some info on how we might correct the problem, but wanted to save some
crucial files before we start messing around. Hence the idea to copy the
important files to a CD while in safe mode.

I can write to CD in Safe Mode using Nero 7. If your problem is that the
native Windows XP burner will not work in Safe Mode, you could boot into
Safe mode + Networking and send copies of the files to your PC attached to
an email.

If the files are too large to email, you could download Silent Night's
Microburner from
www.silentnight2004.com/microburner.html

and see if the free version will run in Safe Mode. The full version does.
