Cannot view cells that contain 3 or more digit numbers

Every time I try to copy and paste data that contains 3-digit numbers o
more, I cannot view the numbers on the spreadsheet.

However, If I try to type in 3-digit numbers and one letter in tha
cell, I can view it.

How do I eliminate this feature, so that I can view numbers-only dat
in cells

what do you mean with 'cannot view'. How are these pasted numbers

Sorry, I left out a few important details.
I have my column widths set quite narrow, such that most cell data i
wider than the cell width.
However, most data can still be viewed, provided the next cell to th
right has no data.
I can see the cell value in the formula bar.

But I cannot view any data in a cell that contains data such as "354
"934" "4856" etc.

However, any data that has a 3-digit number AND a letter in it, i
viewable within the spreadsheet, such as "948a" or "9456754bb".

I must have changed my Excel preferences accidentally somehow, becaus
when I open a blank default spreadsheet, I get the same result.

Jon,

And if that data is visible is that within the column or in the column next
to it as well.
If so : Excel does shwo text (if the next cell is empty) spread over more
columns.
It doesn't do that however with numbers.

You can try by entering a number with enough figures to let Excel show ###.
If you then add an letter, it will show (as said provided the next cell is
empty) the total content of the cell again.

Yes, the text is shown in the next blank cell to the right. I gues
Frank is right, in that Excel has a natural default that does not allo
numbers to be viewed if the column width is too narrow (I should hav
known...its a spreadsheet program!).

I guess I will have to add a text value with a white font next to th
numbers in the cell.

*Pre-format* the column as Text,
OR
Simply prefix the number with an apostrophe ('), which wouldn't be visible
in the cell, but could be seen in the formula bar.
