Cannot stop Windows Messenger from automatically logging in!

Every time I load Outlook Express, Windows Messenger
automatically loads and tries to sign in. I have gone
to "Tools", then "Options" and unchecked the box that
says "Automatically log on to Windows Messenger", but
that has had no effect at all. Messenger still tries to
sign in every time.

In Messenger, I've unchecked the boxes that say "Run this
program when Windows starts." and "Allow this program
to run in the background."

Can somebody solve this one? Thanks.

To fix this, for Outlook (XP/2002), just open Outlook, click the Tools menu,
then
Options, then the Other tab, and uncheck 'Enable Instant Messaging in
Microsoft Outlook'.
For Outlook Express, close Outlook Express, and run this .reg file:

For Norton Antivirus 2003, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton
Antivirus icon in
the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton
Antivirus'), click
Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click
OK.

-----Original Message-----
I have the same problem and do not want the Windows XP
spyware telling Bill Gates how I use my computer. I've
tried the Dell Knowledge Base and the information in
Document 1062001 is useless. I even tried deleting the
Messenger folder but XP just went online and restored it
the next time I booted up.

Can anyone provide a solution?

Messenger may be reinstalled by windows or office update
and service packs.

I think if you go into the options - layout and check to not have the
contact pane displayed, that will keep messenger from loading when you have
the do not run option checked etc. I think it loads anyway if you have the
contact paned displayed - I think I saw this in another group that I read.
Hope it works
