cannot start window

please...i really need help

i switch on my desktop computer tonight, & it normall showing the log in
screen. However, after it load to the desktop page, it can't load the icons &
even the menu bar ( so it just load to the desktop but not allow me to get
use of the window & everything actually). I really dunno what's the problem
on my computer, can anyone tell me please?
