Cannot shift objects off sheets

[RJ]

I have a column with multiple cells (over a hundred) that
have comments attached to them. I want to hide the column
to the left of this column. When I select this column and
try to hide it, I get an error: "Cannot shift objects off
sheets."
I am not sure how to resolve this
