I have had Vista for a year in May. I have never had any problem with
Windows mail. On May 24, about 10 days ago, I was not able to send email
anymore.
The error message that I get is :
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: wedding', Account: 'mail.mchsi.com', Server:
'mail.mchsi.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F

I use Webroot Spy Sweeper with Antivirus, and have since I got my computer.
I have tried a few of the suggestions, and when I try to download them I get
a message that says The update does not apply to your system.
I am really getting frustrated. If anyone has any ideas, I would really
appreciate
it. Thanks!

I am having the EXACT same problem and have been on the phone with my service
provider for the last two days. They have checked everything on their end
and say that it is a Windows problem. I have searched the Windows website
all morning and am VERY frustrated because I cannot get this solved.

I think I've seen messages mentioning that the Webroot Spy Sweeper
program can cause such problems, so try searching for messages that
at least mention this program.

Also try searching for messages that at least mention this website:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

If none of them help, try searching for messages that mention the Vista
SP1 update, or the WORKAROUND section of the KB941090
description.

These often provide only a temporary fix, so also tell us what if any
antivirus programs you have, and whether you have ever had a
Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer. Such
programs are often the cause of such problems.

Also check if you have either the SMS Desktop program or the
Google Toolbar program installed. If you do, uninstall them,
since they also cause problems in Windows Mail. Web sites
that offer to let you do a Google search are not a problem.

Did you get your problem fixed??
I ended up calling my Webroot, that is the virus protection that I have.
They reset some numbers for me and everything is running fine now.
When I contacted them, they knew exactly what to do and did not treat
me like I was crazy.
