cannot save add-in changes

Using .xla add-ins. I can create an add-in and view add-ins via the VB
editor, but if I make even a simple change and hit save, the file
doesn't save! I've got the latest version of XP Professional and Excel
2003 with all the most recent updates. I know this sounds crazy and I
can't for the life of me figure out what is happening. Anyone else see
this? I've searched exhaustively on the web and can't find anything.
I've also seen this on two machines now and I can't believe no one else
has. Thanks!

Just to be clear.

You are in the visual basic editor when you try to save
and you are making sure your add-in has the focus?

You can double-check by hovering the mouse over the save button and
seeing that the tooltip comes up with the right file name.

In the VBE, with your addin as the active addin (click it in the project
explorer), if you do file from the menu, it doesn't show
