PowerPoint 2002 (XP) locks up after I try to save a presentation with a
large Tiff file in it. I have Win2K, all updates. I don't understand!
Fast save on or off it does not work. Help! It worked last week with large
tiff files but not today.

Well I don't have the program the article talks about. I can save a
presentation with simple text, but when I insert a tiff, even if there is
only one slide, I cannot save. I'm thinking what it could be but I can't
think of anything right now. I did reboot the computer but that did not
help. still looking...........thanks

Bob

This seemed to help, we'll see if it works in the long run...

Tip from Microsoft website.
1.. On the Picture toolbar, click the Compress Pictures button. If you
don't see the Picture toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then
click Picture.
2.. To compress all pictures in the presentation, click All pictures in
document.
3.. Under Change resolution, select how you intend to use your
presentation by clicking either Web/Screen or Print.
4.. To further reduce file size, select the Delete cropped areas of
pictures check box.
5.. Click OK.

I know that it's ducking the issue, but is there a reason that the image
must be a TIFF? Generally TIFF's are not the format of choice. And large
images in particular are a waste of resources for PowerPoint presentations
for monitor display. See the following:

The reason I use TIFF is that our company has Xerox department scanner that
has TIFF as the only option for graphics. It can also do PDF's, Word, Excel
scanning. But TIFF appears to be the only choice I have. I will read your
suggestions and see if there are more options. Thank you.

Have a look at IrfanView (www.irfanview.com)

Free for personal use, inexpensive for company licensing; can do batch
conversions from one format to another. Good stuff.
