Cannot restart my machine

Yesterday, while typing on my machine it began responding very slowly
- occasionally I had to wait 30 seconds since I typed letter to see
them on the screen.
I rebooted my machine, and since then I cannot restart it.

When I restart my Windows XP PC, I see the welcome screen with the
usual WinXP logo.
Then when the desktop should appear, I am seeing a black screen with a
mouse cursor on it.

I tried replacing the power supply, replacing the hard drive and
reinstalling WInXp (on a formatted drive) but nothing worked. In fact,
during the WinXp installation process, when they reboot the machine I
got the same problem.

Does anyone has an idea how can I solve this problem?

Well, the first comment is: do you keep a (hand written) computer log?

What changes have been made recently?

he said it's all fresh, he just installed win xp, he's expert enough to
do that, and not doing that correctly woudn't cause the errors he is
getting, and he clearly knows what he's doing. If he noticed any other
pattern, he'd say. Please, think, otherwise you'll make people angry

good work so far, you ruled out alot. May be the MBRD, that's one
thing you haven't tried changing.

Could try pluging the HDD in a different IDE port.

This one's unlikely, but a diff win xp cd (maybe the one you have got
corrupted). maybe even CD drive. but v, v, unlikely

Try isntalling windows xp on the same HDD and same CD and maybe even
same CD drive. in another computer. If you get the same problem then
it proves it's not the MBRD. If it works it proves it was the MBRD.
