Cannot remove orphaned sync files

I have a couple of users whose profiles continue to try to synch data from a
previous domain controller that been out of commission for over a year. I
have deleted the files from the offline files folder, but they show up again
when I log back in. This is really obnoxious.
Any ideas about this?
