Cannot Remove Folder error

I have a weird problem.

If I have a folder that has files in it, and then delete
or access the files in it, then try to delete the folder,
I get the message:

cannot remove folder xxxx: It is being used by another
person or program. Close any programs that might be using
the file and try again.

Now, no other processes or users are using the file as far
as I can tell. I can recreate this error by doing this:

1. create a new folder
2. enter the new folder and create a new blank text file
3. delete the text file
4. try to delete the folder.

If I log off and back on, then I can delete the folder
with no problem. I have no problems deleting actual files,
just folders. If I create a folder, and do not put any
files in it I can delete it. If I try to delete a folder
containing files, it works unless I first access one of
the files, or create a file in the folder, then try to
delete it.

Windows XP pro, all patches installed.

I tried stopping as many processes as I could and trying
to delete the folder after each one stopped. No luck. I
have admin privelages.

this happens on the root C: drive as well as any other
drive on the machine.

Thanks for trying, but that page offers no help for me.

1. I own the folder, I checked.
2. I can deleted if I log off then log back on.
3. It happens to EVERY folder I try to delete after creating, accessing or
deleteing any files contained in it.

It seems like there is some process that is blocking the deletion, but I
can't find out what process it is. I tried stopping various processed and
then deleting it and it still wont work.

I even tried going into safe mode, creating a folder, then putting a file in
it, deleting the file, then trying to delete the folder and it wont delete.
I get the message "cannot delete folder xxxxx - some other process or user
is accessing it..."

I ran check disk and defragged the drive and still no luck.

Sorry, forgot to say, I am the same guy "pixelator" that posted the first
message. I am posting this and my last post from my laptop's newreader. I
posted the first message from the microsoft website using my hotmail
address.
