Cannot Reconnect to Internet

I have an odd problem at the moment. Having a 56K connection - it sometimes goes a bit funny at times. I also have a 2 hour cut off limit from my ISP. When I try to disconnect by clicking in the bottom of the right hand side of start bar, the normal "freeserve(ISP) status" box isn't there - but in its place is just a flickering grey box. When I try and disconnect it won't. The dial up connection logo remains in its flashing blue connected state whatever i do. I tried logging off. When I log back on - it turns grey again - however, when I click on it it says that there is already a network connection. Very odd - LOL. [Also - by pressing ctrl, alt, del - i've found that I have MSblast.exe running - I wonder if it has anything to do with it because last time it would just shut down my PC automatically
Any Insight - !!!

I don't know that Blaster is your only problem - but I would surely start by
removing it, hopefully so it doesn't return again.

Immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/

What You Should Know About the Blaster Worm and Its Variants:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

And about the Welchia worm:
<http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.welchia.worm.html>

Download and install Security patch KB824146, available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=824146#WinXP

Download and run the Blaster and Welchia worm removal tool (Windows 2K/XP):
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=833330>

Please get a NAT router for real protection. From future threats, which will
surely come sometime.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
