DNS hadn't been working right, and following the advice in
a KB article, I removed DNS from the DC, thyen attempted
to re-install it. Just after the terminal server role
question, it errors out with the message: "An error
occured which prevented the Domain Name System (DNS)
component from being installed or removed. The error was
0x80070005."

Due to unavoidable circumstances, there was only the one
DNS server in this mixed-mode domain.

Help!

Not sure if you installed dns on another machine to get it working or not,
but appears to be a permission issue.
The most common resolution for that I saw was the following;
Check for: "Load and unload device drivers" under Security Settings/Local
Policies/User Rights Assignments.
The default permissions should have the Administrators group listed, or any
group that has been granted access to install device drivers.
