cannot paste source column width to destination column width

I am using Excel 2007. I want to match a source column width to a
destination column width but the help file guidelines does not seem to
be working well.
I tried Home tab > Clipboard group > copy, for the source width.
then Home tab > Clipboard group > Paste > Paste special > Paste > Column
width radio button.
The destination width does not reflect the changes.
I tried right clicking, still the same failures.
can anyone help resolve this for me?
TIA

Say we want to copy the column width of column A to column B. Try
this one-line macro:

Sub CopyWidth()
Columns("B:B").ColumnWidth = Columns("A:A").ColumnWidth
End Sub

Macros are very easy to install and use:

1. ALT-F11 brings up the VBE window
2. ALT-I
ALT-M opens a fresh module
3. paste the stuff in and close the VBE window

If you save the workbook, the macro will be saved with it.

To remove the macro:

1. bring up the VBE window as above
2. clear the code out
3. close the VBE window

To use the macro from Excel:

1. ALT-F8
2. Select the macro
3. Touch RUN
