cannot partition my hard drive

I recently removed windows 2000 from my hard drive.When I
use fdisk it displays I have an extended dos partition
with logical drives. When I ask it to display logical
drives it tells me there is none.When I try to delete the
extended partition it says I can't because there is
logical drives.I cant get rid of this extended partition
it's taking up my whole hard drive.Please help!

You need a different program to partition a ntfs extended

drive. Fdisk will not work! Go to pcworld.com and look
for partitioning software and they will point you in the
right direction.

Hi, Barry.

If you are running Win2K, WinXP or Win2K3, there is no reason to look
elsewhere for partitioning software. Disk Management is built into all
these Windows versions and does all the jobs that FDISK and Format.exe used
to do back in MS-DOS days - and a bit more. Use DM to create and delete
primary and extended partitions and logical drives, or to format them, and
to assign or reassign "drive" letters to HDs and CD/DVD drives. (And
probably more jobs that I haven't found yet - check the Help file for
details.)

Of course, even DM can't delete or format the boot device. In Win9x/ME, we
had to boot from something other than Drive C: - probably a DOS boot
floppy - if we wanted to delete or format Drive C:. In Win2K\XP\2K3, we
boot from the CD-ROM to initially partition and format the boot device and
system partition (or to delete them, as Dave Patrick said), and then run DM
to handle the partitioning and formatting chores for other volumes.
