A friend of mine has a file on a floppy disk that she couldn't open.
tried it on my PC and can't open it either.

The error message reads: 'filename.xls' cannot be accessed. The fil
may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location.
Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding.

I've tried copying it but it won't let me. Any thoughts

Hi
sounds like your file got corrupted. Therefore NEVER try opening a file
directly froma floppy disk. this causes these kind of problems

uglyphd,

Try copying the file to a folder in your machine. Then open it from there.
Opening or saving to a floppy with excel is troublesome. Works OK with
small files and extra space on the floppy, but it's not a good idea.

Thanks. I did try making a copy but got an error message saying cylica
redundancy error. I have since found out that she got a new P
recently. I told her to fire up the old PC and try to open it there.
I'm hoping she never closed the file in the old PC and just pulled th
disk. If not, she has a lot of typing to do.

We have a grade school reunion every 5 years and this is all th
classmate info for everyone who ever went to our school.

Thanks again

Uglyphd,

CRC error means it's not able to read the data on the floppy. Try another
machine -- you might get lucky -- preferable her old machine, if still
available. If it can read the file, copy it to a folder or to the desktop,
then from there to another diskette.
