Received several Microsoft Word attachments in various e-mails,
accessed here by Outlook Express 6. Trying to open these documents in
Word (2002, SP3) always yields this error:
"The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions"
(etc.)
The documents are Word documents, sent from within the same state, so
no likelihood of international characters. I've saved a couple
different attachments to two different places on the hard drive and
tried opening those files both ways (double-click, navigate via
File|Open), no luck. I've read Microsoft KB article 224016 and tried
everything suggested there. I've tried the registry hack in KB article
832890 and file behavior is not improved. Finally, I've tried opening
one of the files using Word in safe mode, and even from within the
entire OS (XP Home, SP2) in safe mode.
I assume this is an Outlook phenomenon, since I've had trouble opening
Adobe .pdf files in addition to these Word documents. What else can I
try?
Thanks -
