Cannot open power point 97 file

i have just had a new laptop could not find old office 97
disk so bought office xp small business. now i can't open
my old power point 97 files £200 later? why?

Probably because the SBE does not contain PowerPoint.

Office XP Small Business doesn't include PowerPoint. See this article for

IF it is any consolation, if you just bought the Office XP copy you should
be able to upgrade it to Office System 2003 when it releases later this
month. Office System 2003 Small Business Edition does include PowerPoint. (I
know that isn't much consolation, as it doesn't help now, but it is the best
we can do from here....)
