Suddenly I can't open any folders, can't go to the
control panel, cannot open IE, cannot open any folders
through explorer..only thing I can do is open programs or
open programs through start>all programs..when I try to
do anything else..nothing happens, my screen goes blank
for sec as if it's refreshing itself (I still see my
background but no icons, then a sec later icons come
back..I've ran a system check, & win doctor, cleaned
temps, ran a virus scan, ran ad-aware & spybot, tried a
system restore point but came back incomplete so... no
dice..my last resort is a Full system restore but I'd
rather not because of all the apps, hd drives & drivers
I'll have to re-install...I'm running xp home...Open to
any suggestions. Thanks.

PS: The last thing I remember doing before this happened
is emptying my recycle bin. On xp you can open up the
recycle bin & see all protected files & you have the
option to recover them or delete, so I usually delete
everything in the recycle bin..I did nothing I don't
usually do.

Damn Damn Damn!

I have the same problem. Just put a post on regarding
this. Happened yesterday! I didn't empty the recycle bin
though.

Put your XP disk or recovery disk in the drive and then
go>start\run and type in sfc /scannow Be sure to put
the space after sfc . This will do a System File Check
and replace missing or corrupt MS OS files by checking
the ones you have now against the originals. This may or
may not help. Your post doesn't give much info. Have you
gone into the event viewer in administrative tools to see
what red Xs show up in the Application or System logs?
Double clicking them opens a details window and this info
is very helpful in trouble shooting problems like yours.
Welcome to the eXPeriance. :~)

You're kidding me about the details right? That's
basically the problem as I explained...I tried the system
file check but it didn't make a difference..& I cannot
get to the event viewer for the same reason I can't get
to the control panel or open folders...do you know a
short cut through "run" or something? Thanks. I'm REALLY
not feeling doing a clean restore..OH THE DRIVERS & APPS
I'll have to reload!!!! Ugggh!
