Cannot Open Excel File

I am attempting to open an Excel file which has been in
use for some time. There are no macros or VBA coding in
the spreadsheet. It is a simple list of names and phone
numbers.

However, when I attempt to open the file, nothing
happens. Excel is opened, but nothing is displayed on
screen. The pages are not hidden. The spreadsheet file
still contains data as I can sort of see it if I open the
file in Word.

Is there a tool I can use like disk doctor specifically
for Excel files? Anybody got any tips?

I should also add that I get no error messages
either...quite simply, nothing happens!
