Cannot open a database

A group of us are creating a database for a class we are taking. One member
started the database, and e-mailed and posted it for us to review.

My first problem is that Outlook blocked the attachment as potentially
dangerous - which I guess is a problem for the Outlook Board.

Second, however, is when I try to open the file I downloaded from our file
exchange area, I get the following error message.

Microsoft Access cannot open this file.
This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site.
Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems.
To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location

Data: The file resides on my hard disk. I am not on a network. I use
Windows XP and Access 2002. The file was created on Windows 2000 and Access
2002.

Help!!!
Thanks in advance,
Alisen

Hi

I would have the user e-mail you the file again, but this time zipped
(www.winzip.com). Outlook should allow you to download it to your local hard
disk.....

I have a couple of questions. Did the original author "split" the
database into its front-end, back-end configuration? Did the originator
"upsize" the database for the purpose of playing with it via a web page? Is
your class trying to learn data access techniques such as OLE DB? Some of
these considerations might be the cause of your dilemma. If you pulled the
..MDB file from a public area of your intranet server, you shouldn't be
getting the errors that you indicated.

Steve,
Thank you for your reply. The person who created the database, which is a
simple thing with 4 empty tables at this point - I believe we don't even have
any relationships yet - says she did not do any of the things you asked
below. As a matter of fact, neither of us were really sure what they were!
This class is a "Fundamentals of Database Systems" class. First look at db
design.

The winzip suggestion earlier did work, and it looks like the database was
created in access 2000, not 2002 as I thought.

I am not on an intranet, unless the internet router that I have makes it an
intranet. (Sadly, I know just enough about that stuff to be dangerous to
myself and others) I do know I cannot share files or view the other
computers in my house. So I assume that I am a standalone. That is why I
thought the error message was so odd.

It seems obvious that I am missing something. The other 2 members could
open it using Access 2003 with no problem. Is there maybe some known issue
with 2002? Or could it be the Office service pack updates I did a couple of
weeks ago?

I wish I could be more concrete, but thank you for any help you can give.
